The name might be scary (Hangoroshi meaning to get hurt to the point where you almost die in Japanese), but those are very sweet ohagi (Japanese sweet sticky rice balls). The rice cake is broken until it is about half of its shape, the bean paste is wrapped with it and then covered with kinako (roasted soybean powder).
It is sold at farm products direct sales stores in front of the roadside rest station (Eki no Michi) of Momijigawa Onsen and at festivals.
